Elektra And Salome with Iréne Theorin

Swedish Premiere of B. Tommy Andersson’s New Works

World-famous soprano Iréne Theorin is a regular guest at major opera houses world-wide, with sensational performances in dramatic soprano roles such as Wagner’s Brünnhilde, Puccini’s Turandot and Richard Strauss’s Elektra. She is only rarely heard and seen at home, which Stockholm Concert Hall has now rectified with the Romantic concert (18 January) and of course this concert event.

With its bold and expressive musicality, the opera Elektra is among the most demanding roles for a dramatic soprano, and the final scene from Salome is another number of true bravura that Iréne Theorin will take on here.

The tone poem Also sprach Zarathustra, inspired by Nietzsche’s philosophical novel, was composed in 1896 and quickly became a standard in the classical orchestral repertoire.

The concert will begin with the Swedish premiere of B. Tommy Andersson’s PAN. The myth of the god Pan is about a sensual and powerful being who uses his flute to seduce and attract. The organ and Ulf Norberg, Stockholm Concert Hall’s organist, give shape to the enormous power Pan possesses. Danish conductor Thomas Søndergård, to whom PAN is dedicated, is principal conductor of the BBC National Orchestra of Wales and principal guest conductor of the Royal Scottish National Orchestra.
