Pianorama – inauguration

Pianorama – a three-day festival with the piano in focus. Tonight: Piano, choreography and dance.

Welcome to a festival featuring piano in the lead role in all concerts. For three days, we will get to hear this instrument solo and together with others. Many of Sweden’s leading pianists will appear, including established musicians and emerging stars, as well as some of Sweden’s most prominent string musicians. Concert pianist Roland Pöntinen is artistic director of Pianorama.

Modern dance began with the dancing of Isadora Duncan, and the legacy of her choreography has been passed down through generations of dancers. One dancer carrying the tradition on is Lilly Zetterberg, who performs dances choreographed by Isadora Duncan between the years of 1904-24. Roland Pöntinen performs music by Frédéric Chopin, Christoph Willibald Gluck and Alexander Scriabin – the same fantastic music that accompanied Isadora Duncan when she danced this choreography herself.

Dance is also the common denominator in the consistently masterful pieces Roland Pöntinen will play after intermission – Scriabin’s Waltz, Opus 38; Franz Liszt’s Mephisto Waltz No. 1; selections from Sergei Prokofiev’s Cinderella and Leonard Pennario’s arrangement of Johann Strauss II’s Emperor Waltz.
