Monday at last – Day 4

The Monday At Last concert series celebrates 10 years with a jam-packed chamber music festival: Monday All Week!

Monday All Week is exactly what it sounds like: Monday At Last concerts every day, with tons of guests.

Arnold Schoenberg’s Chamber Symphony is a piece that shifts shape continuously. It is a rhythmically searching and unpredictable musical drama. This difficult-to-play piece consists of a single movement, but it is subdivided into five parts, where Schoenberg melds together the traditional three-part sonata form with an overarching symphonic structure. In the spirit of the late-Romantic period, Schoenberg pushes the limits of tonality and we can discern ideas that would blossom more fully in his later work.

We will also hear Swedish Erik Peters’ Silent Repeat from 2008 for flute and marimba, music for violin and piano by Swedish Amanda Röntgen-Maier, and finally, Mozart’s Clarinet Quintet.
