Piano Recital with Murray Perahia
The sensational American pianist is back!
Sunday 20 May 2018 15.00Ends approximately 17.00
For several decades, pianist Murray Perahia has been among the finest of elite piano players. He was born in the Bronx, New York, but now lives in London. His family is of Spanish descent, which has made a deep impression on his life. His first language was Ladino, an archaic fifteenth-century variation on Spanish. Then came his second languages: English – and music.
Perahia also seems to consciously use music as a language. He usually speaks quietly and poetically through music and is never banal or lofty; he always formulates his pianistic convictions gently and elegantly.
Murray Perahia has an extensive discography that includes recordings of Beethoven’s sonatas, Brahms’ Variations on a theme by Handel, Chopin’s complete études and Bach’s English suites. He has won several awards for his recordings.
Perahia is an Honorary Fellow of the Royal College of Music and Honorary Member of the Royal Academy of Music; he holds honorary doctorates from the University of Leeds and Duke University in North Carolina, USA. In 2004, he received a special prize from Her Majesty the Queen of the United Kingdom.
