Symphony Orchestra of Norrland's opera

Elim Chan was born in Hong Kong and has had enormous global success, with her energy and beautiful interpretations. At just ten years old, pianist Claire Huangci gave a private concert for President Bill Clinton. She has since left the role of wunderkind behind for an international career; she is renowned for her brilliant playing and subtle sense of drama.

Here, she performs with the orchestra in Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 24 in C Minor, a piece composed in the midst of an astoundingly creative and prolific period in the composer’s life in the spring of 1786. With its brooding darkness, it differs from his other solo concertos both due to the minor key and the large orchestra, in which the horn section plays an important role.

Japanese composer Toshio Hosokawa’s Blossoming II from 2011 explores the relationship between a blooming lotus and how music evolves. Inspired by his grandfather, who was a master of traditional Japanese floral arranging, Hosokawa describes how he and the flower are one, and how the process of blooming represents self-discovery. The programme also includes Jan Sandström’s Solamente Tú.
