Annika Schönning

Member of the orchestra since 1988.

Annika Schönning has played in the second violin section of the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra since 1988. After introductory studies at the Högre Musikskolan in Falun, now the Music Conservatory, she studied at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm with Harald Thedéen and also obtained a diploma with the Brio Quartet.

In addition to studies with Sven Karpe, with support from the Royal Swedish Academy of Music’s major international scholarship, she studied with Sandor Végh in Salzburg. From 1984–2006, Annika Schönning was a member of the Stockholm Sinfonietta. She is also deeply interested in chamber music and regularly participates in Konserthuset’s Soup Concerts and Philharmonic Up-Close subscriptions.

In addition to her position with the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra, she has also studied music psychology, which resulted in 2002 in the bachelor thesis The Dream Conductor from the Perspective of the Orchestra Musician. She also obtained a master’s degree in 2012 in music education at the Royal College of Music with the thesis Lifelong Learning – a Study of Orchestra Musicians in ‘The Third Age’.
