Since then, she has been considered one of Europe’s elite singers. She won a Grammy for Best Classical Solo Vocal Album and was appointed Kammersängerin at the Berlin State Opera.
Dorothea Röschmann appeared in her first lied concert at Konserthuset in 2021, which can be seen on Konserthuset Play. Since then, she debuted with the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra in a performance in autumn 2022 of Wagner’s Wesendonck songs. Since first collaborating at Konserthuset, Röschmann and pianist Magnus Svensson have performed together elsewhere in the world.
Magnus Svensson has served as artistic director of Lied Evenings for several seasons. In addition to concerts in the Nordic region and elsewhere in Europe, he has also performed in Russia and the US. Since 2012, he has also worked at the Royal Swedish Academy of Music with re-publishing older Swedish music.

With such empathy and intensity, few can captivate an audience like Jansen. At this concert, Janine Jansen and the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra perform a new violin concerto by Britta Byström.
Byström comments, “In this violin concerto, the soloist moves between ‘day music’ and ‘night music.’ The swirling and light day music becomes shorter and shorter as the night music lengthens – we hear all of the orchestral sounds that emerge as darkness falls. Composing for Janine Jansen has always been a dream for me and this piece is inspired by her expressive style.”
Spanish conductor Jaime Martín also leads the orchestra in Brahms’ Serenade No. 1. It would take time before Brahms presented a symphony, but the 25-year-old’s growing mastery of the orchestral form is evident here in this lyrical and heartfelt music. Jaime Martín was chief conductor of the Gävle Symphony Orchestra until recently and is now chief conductor of both the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra and the National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland.

She replaces Alexandra Büchel, who has had to cancel due to illness. The previously announced songs by Maurice Karkoff are omitted; otherwise, the programme remains unchanged. German-born Kathrin Lorenzen was this year's winner of the Royal Swedish Academy of Music's Soloist Prize. She is now based in Stockholm and is a member of the Swedish Radio Choir.
We also hear three examples from Maurice Ravel's Cinq mélodies populaires grecques, songs based on Greek folk music, originally written for voice and piano but here arranged with harp. Finnish composer Kaija Saariaho's delicate Il pleut is composed for soprano and harp with text by Guillaume Apollinaire.
At this soup concert, we also hear the world premiere of a piece by American-Swedish composer Molly Kien, especially written for this trio with oboe, cello and harp. French André Jolivet’s beautifully melancholy Suite Liturgique from 1942 finishes the programme and gathers the entire ensemble.
Oboist Jesper Harryson has been a member of the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra since 1993. Mikael Sjögren is alternate solo cellist and a member of the orchestra since 1984, and Laura Stephenson has been the orchestra’s harpist since 1992.

The guest artist is the unparalleled pianist and composer Fred Hersch.
American Fred Hersch has been celebrated for his innovative playing and creativity; The New Yorker has described him as “a living legend”. As the head of ensembles such as the Fred Hersch Trio, and in a variety of different collaborations, he has released over 50 albums. His acclaimed memoir, Good Things Happen Slowly, was released in 2017.
Fred Hersch now performs at Konserthuset with the Blue House Jazz Orchestra in a programme consisting mainly of Hersch’s own compositions. None other than Vince Mendoza created these arrangements for both big band and smaller constellations – solo, duo, trio and quartet.
Trumpet player and singer Peter Asplund has released his own records, most recently All My Septembers, and is an in-demand musician who has contributed to countless other albums. Asplund, together with colleague Magnus Lindgren, has led Konserthuset’s big band, the Blue House Jazz Orchestra, ever since its inception some 20 years ago.

The entire educational chain is also being highlighted, from cultural schools up to music college, along with the replenishment of orchestral musicians, with a focus on those instruments that fewer and fewer people play, and fewer cultural schools offer. This complicates recruitment even for the country's orchestras.
To create better conditions for culture in society, public opinion and the willingness of politicians also play a role. Few young people want or dare to pursue a career in music due to the uncertainty in the job market and a lack of protection for freelancers. Often, musicians are forced into self-employment, where there is poor protection, and institutions such as the Social Insurance Agency have insufficient knowledge about working conditions.

Experience music, art, and good food in perfect harmony.
The doors to the sculpture park open well before the concert, allowing visitors to experience the magical Millesgården in its early summer attire. Enjoy a glass of bubbly or some light refreshments at the summer café outside Anne’s House, then find a nice spot to settle down and enjoy the music.
At each event, an ensemble performs music carefully selected to suit both the location and the time when the Milles couple lived there.
Since January 2016, there is an 'orchestra academy' associated with the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra. The international RSPO Orchestra Academy offers advanced academic training for young musicians. They also introduce themselves through a series of public concerts – as seen here with this year's academy students.
