Hultmark & Hultmark

New Friday – music from the Middle Ages and today.

A new programme with old roots – an ”otherworldly” programme that generates, regenerates and recreates some of the music and poetry, thoughts and ideas from the 12th century to the present day. Created and performed by two generations of one multicultural family.

Bassoonist Emily Hultmark holds the position as alternate section leader with the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra. She grew up in England but she has during the past years been based in Germany, Spain and Sweden. Aside from her work with the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra, she strives to create an experimental world with the bassoon, inspired by sounds, travels and most of all, her dad’s imagination and electronic music creations. Combining her classical and creative background with the possibility of both of them creating together.

Torbjörn Hultmark grew up in Sweden but is based in England. He is a musician, composer, live-electronics artist and sound designer. His technique and music has gradually developed over many years through pioneering work based around a complex and ever-evolving setup using live processing via a large range of controlling devices. One of his main inspirations is his children’s and family’s great musicality and creativity, not least that of Emily. The programme Generations is a wonderfully inevitable and natural development!

The music of Tommy Zwedberg, the poetry of Brian Nisbet, the sounds of Stockholm, of growing, of travelling, of London, Istanbul, the Shetlands, Nepal, of the sea, bells, nature, and of ritual. But, above all, it is a programme created by Hultmark... and Hultmark.

The concert is also part of the New Friday subscription – a subscription for forward-looking listeners who want to open their ears to the innovative music of today. Friday evenings in Grünewald Hall, a close-up experience with the music and musicians.
