Organ Matinée with Ulf Norberg

Konserthuset’s own organist in a broad programme.

In Konserthuset’s popular organ matinée subscription, audiences get to hear Sweden’s leading organists play the building’s own organ – one of the largest instruments in Europe!

Konserthuset’s house organist Ulf Norberg will play the organ’s 6,100 pipes at this season’s first organ matinée. He is also responsible for the programming of the entire organ matinée subscription, and his aim is to introduce the major organ repertoire to a broader audience. Ulf, who is originally from Prästmon in Ångermanland, is also the organist at Hedvig Eleonora Church on Östermalm. When he is not playing the organ, he also leads students in the church music programme at Ersta Sköndal Bräcke University College in Stockholm.

Today’s programme spans a little over two hundred years. The oldest of the composers is J.S. Bach, who is represented via 11 variations of the chorale Sei gegrüsset, Jesu gütig.

Organ music by two French composers will also be presented: Prelude and Fugue in C Major by Jeanne Demessieux and an organ symphony by Marcel Dupré. The masterful Demessieux began her international career as a concert organist in Paris in 1946, and she subsequently performed over 700 concerts in Europe and the US. Dupré composed his Organ Symphony No. 2 in 1929.

Konserthuset Play!
Bach’s Orchestral Suite No. 3 is a musical miracle that includes the famous piece Air! Bach and Baroque expert Ton Koopman leads the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra, giving this performance extra vigour. Listen
