Power plays Beethoven

Beethoven’s Violin Concerto is masterful, magnificent and magically beautiful. The solo section is famously demanding and taking on the challenge here is no less than Andrej Power, principal concertmaster of the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra since 2014. He has appeared as a soloist with orchestras in Sweden and elsewhere in Europe, including the Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra in the tradition-bound Tchaikovsky Concert Hall, and in the US and China.

Ludwig van Beethoven is the definitive classical composer. And he is also the most popular! He has surpassed Mozart on the list of today’s most frequently played classical composers in the world’s concert halls.

In the Pastoral Symphony, Beethoven is inspired by his powerful feelings for nature. The symphony begins with a serene and idyllic movement that depicts his emotions on a visit to the countryside. In the second movement, which Beethoven himself entitled “By the Brook”, the strings can clearly be heard to imitate a stream. In this symphony, we also encounter the merriment of dancing, and we are flooded with rain and thunder. 

My picture of Birgit

In 2018, the music world will observe the 100-year anniversary of Birgit Nilsson. Konserthuset will begin this anniversary year by presenting Kenneth Derlow’s lithograph Min Bild av Birgit (My Picture of Birgit) in the stairwell of the main foyer.
