The Sant Andreu Jazz Band is a training born in the district of Sant Andreu (Barcelona) in 2006 under the management of Joan Chamorro. This year marks 12 years of project, 12 years of enthusiasm and magical results in 8 works released in CD and DVD format, and in 10 albums produced within the ”Joan Chamorro presenta” collection and featured by some of the young talents that make up or have been part of the Sant Andreu Jazz Band (Andrea Motis, Eva Fernández, Magalí Datzira, Rita Payés, Marc Martín, Joan Mar Sauqué, Èlia Bastida and Joan Codina) and the project ”La màgia de la veu”.
More than 50 young people between 7 and 21 years old have passed through it. They have starred in the documentary ”A film about kids and music” by director Ramon Tort and rewarded around the world. They have performed in many festivals in the country and also in Marciac, Aix-en-Provence, Châteauneuf-du-Faou, Switzerland, Sweden, etc.
Musicians of world-wide level like Jesse Davis, Joel Frahm, Wycliffe Gordon, Terrel Staford, Dick Oatts, Scott Robinson, Luigi Grasso, John Allred, Bobby Gordon, Ken Peplowski, Jon-Erik Kellso, Pasquale Grasso, etc. have collaborated and recorded with the band.
Andrea Motis, at the Sant Andreu Jazz Band between 2007 and 2016, is a young trumpeter, saxophonist and singer with a spectacular career, with 8 CDs to her name, the last one with the legendary IMPULSE label. She has participated in all the more than 10 recordings of the SAJB and in all the ”Joan Chamorro presenta...”, adding more than 30 CDs to her credit.
Her latest recording, dedicated to Brazilian music, also for the IMPULSE label, will be released in the coming months.
