Through Konserthuset’s popular organ matinée subscription, audiences get to hear Sweden’s leading organists play the building’s organ – one of the largest in Europe, with 6,100 pipes.
Mikael Wahlin is one of Sweden’s most in-demand concert organists. After studying in Gothenburg and London under teachers such as Hans Fagius, Hans-Ola Ericsson and David Sanger, he ranked at the top of numerous international organ competitions. Mikael Wahlin is a lecturer in organ performance at Ersta Sköndal Bräcke University College, the Royal College of Music, and the Academy of Music and Drama at the University of Gothenburg.
As a concert organist, Wahlin has an incredibly broad and varied repertoire that includes everything from Baroque to twentieth-century music. At this concert, he will perform the magnificent Sonata Eroica by the Belgian organ master Joseph Jongen, as well as music by American composers including Philip Glass’ Dance No. 4, in which the rolling chords create a powerful, evocative effect.
