Ensemble Misto consists of members of the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra. As the name suggests, the ensemble is composed of both string and wind instruments, which is necessary to perform Franz Schubert’s beautiful and majestic Octet in F Major for clarinet, bassoon, horn and a string quintet with two violins, viola, cello and double bass. This music is inspired by Beethoven and commissioned by the famous clarinettist Ferdinand Troyer. Schubert was happy to oblige and in the second movement, the clarinet carries the slow, warm melody. This is classical music at its most beautiful.

Clarinettist, conductor and composer Jörg Widmann often uses elements of older classical music in his imaginative compositions, and his octet is a tribute to Schubert’s octet. “I have entitled the third movement ‘Song without Words’ which one might think refers to Mendelssohn, but in fact it is about Schubert.” Jörg Widmann is one of Germany’s most acclaimed names in music. For example, he was given the prestigious task of composing a large oratorio for the opening of the Elbphilharmonie concert hall in Hamburg in January 2017.

Ensemble Misto consists of Andrej Power on violin, Pascal Siffert on viola, Marie Macleod on cello, Valur Pálsson on double bass, Andreas Alin on flute, Jesper Harryson on oboe, Hermann Stefánsson on clarinet, Jens-Christoph Lemke on bassoon and Kristofer Öberg on horn.
