Cancelled: Enigma Variations
This concert is cancelled.
American conductor Ryan Bancroft came to international attention in 2018 when he won the prestigious Malko Competition for Young Conductors. By now, he is the new Prinicpal Conductor for the BBC National Orchestra of Wales and Artist in Association with Finnish Tapiola Sinfonietta, beginning next season.
Bancroft made his debut with the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra in 2019, and was immediately reinvited. He was scheduled to conduct the season opening with Carmina Burana in September, a production that was cancelled due to well-known reasons.
In this concert Bancroft leads the orchestra in British music: Elgar’s beloved Enigma Variations and Scottish James MacMillan’s (born in 1959) The Confession of Isobel Gowdie – a celebrated piece that marked his breakthrough when first performed at the Proms in 1990.
