Cancelled: Organ Matinée with Elias Fergin

Music by Bach, Hilding Rosenberg and Canadian Rachel Laurin.

Through Konserthuset’s popular organ matinée subscription, audiences get to hear Sweden’s leading organists play the building’s organ – one of the largest in Europe, with 6,100 pipes.

Elias Fergin, who was born and raised in Stockholm, began studying to become a church musician and organist immediately after high school. A few years at Ersta Sköndal Bräcke University College, followed by church music studies at the Royal College of Music, resulted in a master’s degree in the summer of 2020. Fergin is curious about music for organ from all genres, but Swedish late-Romantic music is particularly close to his heart.

Now, as Fergin takes a seat at Konserthuset’s organ, he will begin with a passacaglia and fugue by Johann Sebastian Bach. Then Rachel Laurin, a Canadian composer and organist who was born in 1961. She is acclaimed for her improvisational playing and Fergin will play her Étude Héroïque för organ solo.

Last, we will hear music by Hilding Rosenberg, one of Sweden’s most significant composers of the twentieth century. Rosenberg left behind seven operas and seven symphonies, among other works. Toccata, Aria Pastorale and Ciaccona for organ are from 1952.
