Soup Concert with violins and piano
Philharmonic musicians play music by Darius Milhaud and Rebecca Clarke.
Darius Milhaud (1892–1976) was a member of the French group of composers known as Les Six, which aimed to depart from the Impressionism and late-Romanticism that were dominant in the early twentieth century. His music is inspired by jazz, folk music and Jewish music tradition. Milhaud wrote numerous pieces of chamber music; here, we hear the Sonata for two violins and piano.
Another prolific composer was English-American Rebecca Clarke (1886–1979), who left behind around 100 pieces. She was known in her time as a masterful alto violinist, and one of the first professional female orchestral musicians. This performance features Clarke’s Three Movements for two violins and piano.
On piano, we hear Stefan Lindgren, who has performed with most major orchestras in Sweden. He has been the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra’s pianist since 2007 and frequently participates in chamber music concerts. Daniela Bonfiglioli has been a member of the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra’s first violin section since 2011. Claudia Bonfiglioli has been section leader of Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra’s second violins since 2013.
