Kind of Jazz I – Classics

Classics in a double sense, with Jan Lundgren/Scott Hamilton Quartet and vocalist Hannah Svensson.

Over the years, Jan Lundgren has collaborated with tenor saxophone player Scott Hamilton in a wide variety of settings, and Lundgren’s melodic and emotional piano style is the perfect match for Hamilton’s gently crooning and heartfelt tenor playing. “This collaboration goes way back; we’ve been playing as a quartet for several decades and our latest album, Classics from 2022, features classical themes that were eventually made popular in jazz in the 1930s and 40s.”

The concert – like the album, Classics – thus reflects classics in a double sense of the word: classical music themes interpreted in classic jazz style. They are accompanied by vocalist Hannah Svensson, who has released six acclaimed albums under her own name. “In a few numbers, Hannah joins the quartet within – or in proximity to – jazz classics. There might also be some folk melodies,” adds Jan Lundgren.

In recent years, Jan Lundgren has given numerous concerts under the collective name Kind of Jazz, featuring collaborations with guest artists and ensembles. Jan Lundgren is among our foremost musicians. Through around 50 albums and numerous projects and collaborations, he has demonstrated his ability to embrace tradition while undergoing continuous renewal.
