Mozart and Haydn
William Christie conducts symphonies by Haydn and Ann Hallenberg is vocal soloist. Executive and Artistic Director Stefan Forsberg hosts and introduces the concert.
Mezzosoprano Ann Hallenberg is one of Sweden’s most luminous stars on the international opera scene, and in 2021 she was thunderously successful at Drottningholm Palace Theatre in the role of Agrippina in Handel’s opera. At this concert, we hear her in renowned arias by Mozart, Gluck and Haydn.
Joseph Haydn composed over one hundred symphonies and the last twelve so-called London Symphonies are well-known and played often. But many of the earlier symphonies are also deserving of attention, such as symphonies no. 82 and 87, unique and personal masterpieces from the collection entitled the Paris Symphonies. Haydn wrote them on behalf of a Parisian concert arranger for what was an exceptionally large orchestra at that time, with up to 70 musicians.
The Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra is led by legendary conductor William Christie, one of the absolute biggest names in older music.
