English-Swedish bassoon player Emily Hultmark grew up in England. She joined the National Youth Orchestra early on, where she gained valuable experience under the batons of Sir Simon Rattle, Sir Colin Davis, Sir Andrew Davis, Marin Alsop, Yan Pascal Tortellier and more. From 2002–2004, Hultmark studied at Chetham’s School of Music in Manchester. She then moved to Gothenburg for further studies. At the same time, she participated in master classes around Europe. She has obtained top placements in international competitions. She is a passionate chamber musician with a desire to also develop the role of the bassoon in improvised and experimental music.
Emily Hultmark joined the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra in 2008 and worked there for three years under the chief conductor at the time, Gustavo Dudamel. At the invitation of Zubin Mehta, she played in the opera orchestra at the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofia in Valencia in 2012–2013.Then, in 2014, she got the position as alternate section leader with the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra.
