After Timas Hans Polska

Folk music from Dalarna.

Dalarna-based violinist Timas Hans had a vast repertoire, with pieces ranging from the eighteenth century to modern polka, mazurka and Swedish schottis melodies. He grew up in Dalbyn, Ore parish, but the records he left behind include pieces from Rättvik, Mora, Hälsingland and Skåne.

When painter Anders Zorn arranged Sweden’s first folk music competition in 1906, held in Gesunda on the island of Sollerön in Siljan, Timas Hans won first place in pieces for violin.
