Organ Matinée

Music from My Fair Lady with soprano Miranda Colchester and organist Ulf Norberg.

The organ matinée subscription featuring performances by Sweden’s leading organists has expanded and gained more and more popularity. With its magnificent facade, the organ in Konserthuset Stockholm is one of the most famous in Europe, and with 6,100 pipes, it is also one of the biggest.

At this performance, we will hear Konserthuset’s organist Ulf Norberg with the versatile soprano Miranda Colchester in songs from the classic musical My Fair Lady. The story is well-known: Higgins, the eccentric phonetics professor, must transform flower-seller Eliza Doolittle into a lady by replacing her extreme Cockney accent with an aristocratic one.

Ulf Norberg, who is one of the country’s most prominent organists, also performs French organ virtuoso Marcel Dupré’s Three Preludes and Fugues from 1938. What is particularly special about these pieces is that Dupré’s score indicated not only the finger placement and registration, but also precisely how the different themes, keys and the various parts go together, all to ensure the soloist will understand the music’s development exactly, and more easily be able to convey its content to the audience.
