Monday at last – Day 6:2

The Monday At Last concert series celebrates 10 years with a jam-packed chamber music festival: Monday All Week!

Monday All Week is exactly what it sounds like: Monday At Last concerts for seven days straight, with tons of guests.

The primary focus of the large 2009 Composer Festival at Konserthuset Stockholm was English composer Thomas Adès. Since his major breakthrough with the opera Powder Her Face, he has been considered one of the greatest composers of our time. His Catch is a musical game, where the clarinet is literally “captured” and finally joins the piano trio.

Claude Debussy’s Sonata for Flute, Viola and Harp is playful in its own way. Debussy could not decide whether his sonata should move listeners to tears or to laughter. But of one thing he was certain: “Anyone who simply describes this as Impressionistic is an imbecile.”

We will also become acquainted with Mélanie Bonis, better known in her day as Mel Bonis, who studied with Debussy at the Paris Conservatory.
