Organ matinée

Couperin, Guillou and Cochereau – French music for organ with Håkan Dahlén.

The organ at Konserthuset Stockholm is one of the largest in Europe, and hearing it is an astounding experience. The organ matinée subscription featuring performances by Sweden’s leading organists has also expanded and gained more and more popularity.

At this organ matinée, Håkan Dahlén, one of Sweden’s most prominent concert organists, will take on the huge and powerful instrument. His broad repertoire spans everything from contemporary work – he has premiered numerous pieces by Swedish composers – to Baroque. This concert has a French theme, with music by the playful organ virtuoso Jean Guillou and the innovative improviser Pierre Cochereau, who was appointed the organist of Notre Dame in Paris in 1955.

Last but not least, we will also hear music by François Couperin, also known as Couperin le grand to distinguish him from the other members of the Couperin family, all of whom were musicians. His Pièces d’Orgue from 1690 are both beautiful and original, gracefully elegant and intricate.

My picture of Birgit

In 2018, the music world will observe the 100-year anniversary of Birgit Nilsson. Konserthuset will begin this anniversary year by presenting Kenneth Derlow’s lithograph Min Bild av Birgit (My Picture of Birgit) in the stairwell of the main foyer.
