Genre: Chamber music

Kulturnatt Stockholm – RSPO Orchestra Academy

String concert with this year’s Orchestra Academy students.

Come face to face with world-class young musicians, joining them on the actual stage in the Main Hall of Konserthuset Stockholm. An atmospheric concert during which the hall is darkened and the audience gets to experience the music up close on the illuminated stage (limited seating) or from the stalls.

Hearing the players’ bows caress the strings and watching them interact through the slightest looks and gestures makes for an unforgettable experience. True “chamber” music, as it were! The performers all study at the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra’s international orchestral academy, a special higher education programme for gifted young musicians.

This evening, they perform the first movement of Schubert’s lovely string quintet in C major – one of the finest pieces of chamber music ever written, and one of the last completed by Schubert in his lifetime.

The RSPO Orchestra Academy (the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra’s international orchestral academy) is an advanced academic training programme for young musicians. Led by the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra’s section leaders and in partnership with the Piteå School of Music, students undergo rigorous training, focusing on their individual instrument of choice, orchestral music and chamber music. They also participate in a number of chamber music concerts that are open to the public.
