The Lied subscription at Konserthuset Stockholm is now in its eighth season. As in previous years, Pianist Magnus Svensson has invited an exclusive assortment of musicians from the world’s opera and concert stages, giving us the chance to experience their vocal art in the intimacy of Grünewald Hall.
German soprano Dorothea Röschmann entered the international opera scene in 1995, in a performance of Susanna in Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro at the festival in Salzburg. Since then, she has been considered one of Europe’s elite singers. She has been part of the regular ensemble at the Berlin State Opera for many years, where she has performed roles such as Anna in Weber’s Der Freischütz, under the baton of Zubin Mehta; Nanetta in Verdi’s Falstaff, with Claudio Abbado; and Micaela in Bizet’s Carmen. She is also something of an expert on Mozart and in addition to Susanna in The Marriage of Figaro, she has sung the roles of Zerlina and Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni, Pamina in The Magic Flute and Fiordiligi in Così fan tutte.
Dorothea Röschmann won a Grammy for Best Classical Vocal Solo Album in 2017 for Schumann & Berg. She was also appointed to the prestigious position of Kammersängerin at the Berlin State Opera that same year.
Versatile pianist Magnus Svensson specialises in the art of lied, and he has served as artistic director of Lied Evenings for several seasons. In addition to concerts in the Nordic region and elsewhere in Europe, he has also performed in Russia and the US. Magnus Svensson obtained his soloist diploma from the Royal College of Music in Stockholm, graduated with honours as top student, and then immersed himself in the study of lied interpretation in London. Since 2012, he has also worked at the Royal Swedish Academy of Music with re-publishing older Swedish music.
