A unique youth orchestra with members from culture schools and El Sistema programmes all over Sweden.
The partnership with El Sistema is a vital, important part of Konserthuset and the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra’s dedication to young musicians. El Sistema is an orchestra school, but also a way to engage children, especially in areas with few other opportunities for cultural activity, in an orchestra to make music and foster community and faith in the future. Konserthuset’s Executive and Artistic Director Stefan Forsberg is a member of the board of directors for the El Sistema Sweden Foundation.
The El Sistema National Orchestra was created in autumn 2019, through a collaboration between the El Sistema Sweden Foundation and Stim. The celebrated debut concert featuring 45 young orchestral musicians took place at Konserthuset Stockholm in November 2019.
It has since then become an annual event with concerts taking place in 2020 and 2021, as a finale of a week-long music camp. The orchestra had in 2021 grown to 63 members, supported by professional musicians from for instance the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra and Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra.
Thanks to Classical Futures Europe the Venezuelan violinist Fraynni Rui joined the project in 2021 as a role model and mentor for the young orchestral musicians. Musicians from the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra and the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra serve as teachers in the run-up to the concerts.
