New Executive Director appointed

Susanne Rydén is the new Executive Director and CEO of the Stockholm Concert Hall Foundation and the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra.

Susanne Rydén succeeds Stefan Forsberg. As previously announced, after 21 years as a highly successful Executive and Artistic Director, Stefan Forsberg has decided to retire in the summer of 2024.

Following her own musical career, Susanne Rydén has taken leading roles in the Swedish music scene. Rydén is currently president of the Royal Swedish Academy of Music and CEO of Musik i Syd. She will formally take over as Executive Director in September 2024.

“It is with great humility and joy that I am taking the baton after Stefan’s long-term and fantastic work. I am passionate about bringing people and music together and I look forward to contributing to the development of Konserthuset’s operations, with the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra at the centre, in every way I can.”

Susanne Rydén is a trained soprano and has been active as a musician in Sweden and abroad. In 2011, she was awarded the royal medal Litteris et Artibus, for outstanding artistic work. In 2007, she was elected as a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Music, and has served as its president since 2015. Since 2018 she has been CEO of Musik i Syd.

“The Board is incredibly pleased to be able to present Susanne as Executive Director,” says Eva-Louise Erlandsson Slorach, Chairperson of the Board of the Stockholm Concert Hall Foundation. “Recruitment was conducted with enormous care from among numerous candidates from Sweden and abroad. We look forward to beginning our collaboration with Susanne after next summer.”

Susanne Rydén will take over the position beginning with the 2024/25 season. The transitional process will take place in the spring, in close collaboration with Stefan Forsberg.

“I am thrilled that Susanne will be taking over after me when I retire from this wonderful position,” says Stefan Forsberg. “Susanne is a brilliant person who is thoroughly rooted in both the Swedish music world and political arenas. With her extensive experience, she will be an excellent leader for the operation. As a loyal concertgoer, I will follow the continued development with admiration!”
