We mourn an admired musician and a dear friend of the philharmonic family.
We’ve been reached by the sad news that our alternate solo horn player Rolf Bengtsson has left us. Rolf was a deeply admired musician, not only in Sweden but internationally as well. Tempting offers from other orchestras in the world were withdrawn, since Rolf not only remained faithful to Sweden, but also to the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra – for more than 40 years.
Rolf’s unique musicianship was ever so obvious as a member of the Stockholm Philharmonic Wind Quintet in the 1960s and 1970s, where his profound playing was unanimously celebrated all over the world. And there were many intances in which soloists, conductors, colleagues and audiences had the privilige of enjoying Rolf’s artistry in the great symphonic masterpieces.
The Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra and friends at Konserthuset Stockholm mourn an outstanding musician, and above all a very dear and beloved friend and colleague.
