Prokofiev's 2nd piano Concerto

The original score to Prokofiev’s Second Piano Concerto was unfortunately destroyed in a fire, so he had to rewrite the piece. The result was, of course, unlike the first version, and one thing is clear: the music is daring for its time and poses a challenge for the soloist.

Russian Denis Kozhukhin won the Queen Elisabeth Competition in 2010 and has quickly established himself on the international scene. He recently soloed with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, San Francisco Symphony and Orchestre National de France. He has also performed solo concerts at venues including Wigmore Hall in London.

Already in its original version, Brahms’ Piano Quartet was written in a nearly symphonic style. Arnold Schönberg, who had met Brahms, wanted to bring the quartet to a wider audience through his orchestration. The music is incredible: in its colourful orchestral version, it does not shy away from grandiose gestures.

American director Joshua Weilerstein is the artistic director of the Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne and has conducted the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra on two previous occasions.
