André Campras Requiem

The Eric Ericson Chamber Choir and the Lautten Compagney features a forgotten French master of Baroque.

André Campra (1660–1744) is not particularly well known today, but he was one of the true leading figures of French Baroque during the period between greats such as Jean-Baptiste Lully and Jean-Philippe Rameau.

Campra wrote several works for the stage, operas and ballets, which became incredibly popular in his time. Vocal music was front and centre for Campra’s creations and he also composed cantatas and religious music.

We will hear an example of the latter here, as the Eric Ericson Chamber Choir, led by its chief conductor Fredrik Malmberg, performs André Campra’s Messe de requiem, a piece composed in the early 1720s.

The choir is joined by one of Germany's most renowned baroque ensembles, The Lautten Compagney from Berlin. The ensemble is continually crossing boundaries in their highly creative programming, combining for instance contemporary works with baroque music.
