Genre: Chamber music

Cancelled: Lang Lang Plays Bach

This concert is cancelled.

Star pianist interprets the Goldberg Variations.

Without hesitation, Lang Lang is one of the world’s most renowned and prominent concert pianists. He was born in Shenyang in the province of Liaoning in north-eastern China. He reports that he began to play piano at the age of two, after seeing a segment from the cartoon Tom and Jerry, in which Tom plays Franz Liszt’s Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2.

Lang Lang has truly taken the world of classical music by storm. After his debut as a soloist at the celebrated Proms concerts in London, one critic wrote that the event could be described as historic. He has been a classical superstar ever since, and performed when Barack Obama accepted the Nobel Peace Prize in Oslo in 2009, and at the Beijing Olympic Opening Ceremony the year before.

He has performed at Konserthuset several times before, both in his own recitals and with the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra, including at the Nobel Prize Concert in 2008, when he played Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2. Lang Lang last visited Konserthuset in 2016, for a recital at which he played works by Tchaikovsky, Bach and Chopin.

In this eagerly anticipated return, we will get to hear the charismatic Lang in one of Bach’s most beloved pieces: the masterful Goldberg Variations.
