Kind of Jazz

Jan Lundgren meets three top bass players: Georg Riedel, Hans Backenroth and Mattias Svensson.

In recent years, Jan Lundgren has presented a series of concerts under the collective title Kind of Jazz, with invited artists and ensembles. This time he has invited three bass players, among them the legendary Georg Riedel.

Jan Lundgren is one of our foremost musicians and through some 50 albums and in tons of projects and collaborations, he has demonstrated his ability to embrace tradition with simultaneous self-renewal. The same can easily be said about Georg Riedel, his duo partner in this concert.

Georg Riedel was first known to a larger audience through his collaboration with pianist Jan Johansson and the album Jazz på svenska (”Jazz in Swedish”). Furthermore, he has in his work with author Astrid Lindgren composed a number of songs that are loved by generations of Swedes. Riedel has work with all the greats in Swedish music, like Lasse Gullin, Arne Domnérus, Monica Zetterlund and Cornelis Vreeswijk. In the autumn of 2020 the first major biography of Georg Riedel was released (published in Swedish by Bo Ejeby förlag).

Hans Backenroth has worked with practically all of the Swedish jazz elite, as well as the big international names. Both Backenroth and Mattias Svensson collaborate with Jan Lundgren on a regular basis. Svensson is also noted for his work with artists like Viktoria Tolstoy and Jacob Karlzon.
