Kind of Jazz III – Jazz meets folk meets songs
Traditional Swedish songs and folk music in a jazz dialect when Jan Lundgren meets Ale Möller and Filip Jers.
Jan Lundgren is among our foremost musicians. Through around 50 albums and numerous projects and collaborations, he has demonstrated his ability to embrace tradition while undergoing continuous renewal. Every year, Jan Lundgren presents three concerts under the collective name Kind of Jazz, featuring collaborations with guest artists and ensembles. Kind of Jazz 2024 is the sixth season of this subscription.
“The title really explains it all,” says Jan Lundgren. It’s a convergence of jazz, folk music and traditional Swedish songs, with a splash of Olle Adolphson and a sprinkling of Evert Taube.” The result is an evening of joyful and playful music, with one of the greatest musicians in what is known as world music: Ale Möller. “He finds inspiration from the whole world, and plays a massive number of instruments – he’s an incredible musician.”
This playful trio is completed by Filip Jers – an internationally acclaimed harmonica player with a background in jazz, who freely transcends the imagined boundaries between genres. “Filip is another musician with strong roots in the Swedish folk music tradition and songs,” points out Jan Lundgren. “He is also a spectacular traditional musician, who will surely include songs from his home region of Höör, in Skåne.”
