Soup Concert with trio

A diverse programme moving including a world premiere.

In this exciting music from several different styles and epochs, older works are interwoven with newer ones. The symphonies by Johann Sebastian Bach and music by the less well-known Bernhard Heinrich Romberg are included in the former category. Romberg was a successful cellist in Germany in the late-eighteenth and early-nineteenth centuries, and played with Beethoven and Haydn, among others. We hear the elegant trio in E minor, op. 38:1.

Mauricio Kagel (1931–2008) was born in Argentina, but worked almost his entire life in Germany. He was a member of the avant-garde Darmstadt School and often composed music with theatrical and absurdist elements. We hear his Aus dem Nachlass from 1986.

The finale is a world premiere. Molly Kien is an American composer who has been based in Stockholm for several decades. She studied under Sven-David Sandström, among others. The Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra has played her harp concerto, and several of her chamber music pieces have previously been performed at Konserthuset.

Members of the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra perform the music. Since 2018, American Vicki Powell has been section leader of the orchestra’s violin section. Since 2019, Josep Castanyer Alonso has been a member of the cello section and Valur Pálsson has been section leader of the double bass section since 1991.
