Darya & Månskensorkestern

Finnish tango tinged with exotica, beguine, waltz and schlager

For fifteen years, Darya & Månskensorkestern from Stockholm have played the world’s most melancholy music: Finnish tango. By adding dashes of exotica, beguine, waltz and schlager to the Finnish tango, the orchestra has gained a broad and diverse audience spanning multiple age groups. Spearheading the orchestra is Sweden’s uncrowned tango queen, Darya Pakarinen.

In spring 2017, Darya & Månskensorkestern released their first album of their own material: “Uusi Atlantis – Det nya Atlantis” (The New Atlantis) on Dubious Records. Moving through a darkly psychedelic and barren landscape, the music brushes up against different genres. Whispers and shadows of the Finnish tango and tradition remain, but Darya & Månskensorkestern create their own musical universe. This is music of life and death – modern and aged all at once.

Darya & Månskensorkestern has toured all over Scandinavia and since 2005, they have also run the Tangopalatsi club at Södra Teatern in Stockholm. There, Darya & Månskensorkestern has collaborated with a long list of musicians with a Finnish connection, including Frida Hyvönen, Markus Krunegård, Anna Järvinen, Arja Sajonmaa, Nino Ramsby and Love Antell.
