Janine Jansen
Jansen plays the Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto
The Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra back from touring in Estonia.
In recent seasons, Dutch star violinist Janine Jansen has collaborated with the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra and performed recitals at Konserthuset Stockholm. During the 2014/15 season, Jansen was also Konserthuset’s Artist-in-Residence.
Together with the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra and Sakari Oramo, she will now perform Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto – the best thing to come from Tchaikovsky’s catastrophic marriage, which led him to depression and a suicide attempt. But his heart was still brimming with music, and it only took him a few weeks to write this concerto. Technically, it is one of the most challenging pieces a violinist can attempt, but it is also one of the most beloved violin concertos in music history.
The programme will begin with Paula af Malmborg Ward’s Operatic – music that is dedicated to all the enthusiasts who act spontaneously with their hearts, and thus help to make the world a better place. Paula af Malmborg Ward was featured at Stockholm Concert Hall’s Composer Weekend in 2011.
