Organ Matinée with Jonas Lundblad
Mythically and Biblically
In what ways can religion and philosophy be presented artistically? Jonas Lundblad studied this question as a doctoral student in theology. He is also active as an organist, with a particular interest in Olivier Messiaen’s organ works.
Jonas Lundblad will begin the concert with Naji Hakim’s humorous Gershwinesca, which is a tribute to George Gershwin. The piece is filled with symphonic jazz themes by American composers.
The organ solo “Liberate me from freedom! All this freedom!” is the second of three movements from Libera Me by Sven-David Sandström. It functions as a stand-alone piece and is filled with complex polyphony, alternating between major and minor notes.
Liszt’s Prometheus is originally a symphonic poem, inspired by the Greek myth about the Titan Prometheus who stole fire from the gods and gave it to mankind.
