Richard Goode
Piano recital featuring Richard Goode
Goode’s Beethoven
Majestic and emotionally powerful: this is how critics have described New York-born pianist Richard Goode’s interpretations of Beethoven’s sonatas. He has recently performed his Beethoven interpretations in New York, London and Berlin – to critical acclaim everywhere. Opus 109 is an intimate sonata in which Beethoven explores variations on a theme in numerous ways. Opus 110 has an almost vocal quality, and contains passion, humour and piety.
Goode will also play Mozart’s Sonata in A Minor. After its magnificent beginning, it concludes in the third movement with an underlying sense of tragedy that could be due to Mozart having lost his mother while composing the piece. Brahms’ Six Pieces for Piano are melodically rich, with a complexity that is typical of his later style. Some evidence exists that the final piece was intended to become a symphony. The programme will begin with one of Haydn’s last sonatas.
