Lied concert with Theorin and Tenstam

This is the third lied concert of the season, and this time, pianist Magnus Svensson brings two scintillating Swedish opera stars: dramatic soprano Iréne Theorin, and equally dramatic mezzo soprano Ulrika Tenstam.

Iréne Theorin is a regular guest at major opera houses world-wide, with sensational performances in roles by Wagner, Puccini and Strauss; she has worked with conductors such as Daniel Barenboim, Valery Gergiev and Jukka-Pekka Sarastre. For many opera fans, she is Brünnhilde and Turandot personified. Theorin returns to Konserthuset Stockholm in May as a soloist with the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra in a Richard Strauss programme.

Ulrika Tenstam’s career was galvanized when she sang in Gluck's Iphigenie en Aulide at the Drottningholm Palace Theatre; since then, she has worked with conductors such as Neeme Järvi, Sixten Ehrling and Antonio Papanov. She has portrayed roles in operas by Mozart, Rossini, Bizet, Verdi and Wagner, and is also frequently engaged as a concert singer in works such as Mahler’s Das Lied von der Erde and Verdi’s Requiem.

Pianist Magnus Svensson is a versatile musician who specialises in the art song. Magnus Svensson has appeared on most major concert stages in Sweden, in addition to regular concerts in the US and several European countries.
