Bach Reborn
This concert is part of the Swedish Chamber Orchestra’s project Bach Reborn, which combines a commissioned work with each of Bach’s six Brandenburg Concertos. This is the orchestra’s second guest performance for the Bach Reborn project.
Here, Anders Hillborg was tasked with reflecting on the third Brandenburg Concerto by J.S. Bach. First we will hear Bach’s work, its musical choreography like a dance between the orchestral instruments, followed by Hillborg’s personal commentary, for which the versatile violinist Pekka Kuusisto is soloist. He was admitted to the Sibelius Academy at 7 years old and is now a star of the international scene.
Spearheaded by chief conductor Thomas Dausgaard, the Swedish Chamber Orchestra has an obvious place in the international arena. The orchestra formed in 1995 in Örebro. When Dausgaard joined the ensemble two years later, the journey toward major successes began in earnest. From initially having focused on a classic Viennese repertoire, the orchestra has expanded to include Baroque and contemporary works, of which this concert is a brilliant example. To conclude, we will hear Bruckner’s heroic third symphony – often considered his artistic breakthrough.
