The French pianist in Debussy’s epoch-making Preludes.French pianist Jean-Yves Thibaudet has been acclaimed for his sensitive and technically masterful performance, and especially for his incredible precision when chiselling out the details of Debussy’s multifaceted, painterly music. Here, we will hear him in the revolutionary Preludes, which include famous pieces such as Voiles (Veils), La Fille aux Chevaux de Lin (The Girl with the Flaxen Hair) and La Cathedrale Engloutie (The Sunken Cathedral).
Thibaudet has lived in Los Angeles for a long time, where he is well-known for his concert performances, of course, but also for his work on movie soundtracks. He played the cello section in the Oscar-nominated music for the movie Pride & Prejudice, and on the soundtrack for the movie Atonement, which won an Oscar for Best Original Score. He is also known for his interest in fashion and on stage he wears clothing designed by fashion icon Vivienne Westwood.
