Mozart’s Sinfonia concertante is considered one of the most significant masterpieces of the genre. This music flashes in its brilliance, its youthful fervour and its mature humility. It is also Mozart’s tribute to the darkly tinged tone of the viola, which is juxtaposed here against the brilliance of the violin. Malin Broman is the violin soloist and will lead Musica Vitae, and Daniel Eklund will perform the viola solo.

English Baroque master Henry Purcell is best known for his opera Dido and Aeneas, but he also composed many other works. Musica Vitae will begin their concert with his exquisitely melodic Fantasias – these are also counterpoint masterpieces and have been compared to Bach’s The Art of the Fugue.

We will also hear English composer Sally Beamish’s California, inspired by Beethoven’s String Quartet in C Minor Opus 18 no. 4, performed here in a version for string orchestra.

This concert will also present a performance of the brand new Sinfonia 14 for string orchestra Daniel Börtz. Without hesitation, Börtz is one of Sweden’s most central composers and as recently as spring 2019, the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra gave the world premiere of his Sinfonia 13 at Konserthuset Stockholm.
