El Sistema Nationalorkester
Music from musicals and well-known classics under the direction of Ron Davis Alvarez and with Frida Modén Treichl on vocals.
El Sistema National Orchestra is an orchestra for young people within El Sistema activities or at Kulturskolan. The orchestra gathers young people aged 11–19 from all over the country. It now consists of 63 members, supported by professional musicians from, among others, the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra and the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra.
"Our vision is to show through the orchestra how far we have come with El Sistema in Sweden", says Ron Davis Alvarez, conductor of El Sistema National Orchestra in Sweden. Also participating is the musical artist and actress Frida Modén Treichl. She has been featured in some of the top musicals around Sweden, including Alison Bechdel in Fun Home at Kulturhuset Stadsteatern, Maria in Sound of Music at Uppsala Stadsteater, Anita in West Side Story at the Gothenburg Opera and Sally Bowles in Cabaret at Malmö Stadsteater.
El Sistema is a model for choir and orchestra schools that has been developed in Venezuela. It is based on the vision of the ability of music to make people grow in a social context, strengthen the community and the self-esteem and identity of children and young people. In Sweden, El Sistema as a form of teaching has existed since 2009 and has grown steadily since then.
