Genre: Chamber music

Soup Concert with violin, clarinet and piano

With Clara Schumann, Mozart and Khachaturian, we travel from the eighteenth century to the nineteenth century, and finally to the twentieth century.

At well over twenty minutes long, Mozart’s Violin Sonata will comprise the main section of the programme. Mozart wrote violin sonatas throughout his time as a composer, and this is among the genre’s “mature” pieces, with equal parts for both instruments. These parts are reminiscent of roles in an opera, and this music is indeed operatic at times.

Clara Schumann’s Three Romances will be performed in a version with clarinet. The piece was originally composed for violin and piano and is dedicated to violin legend Joseph Joachim, with whom Clara performed music on tour, to much acclaim.

Armenian composer Aram Khachaturian is perhaps known primarily for music for the ballets Gayane and Spartacus, which have become popular in a variety of contexts, but he wrote music in all formats and genres. The Trio from 1932 is from his time studying in Moscow, but it demonstrates much of what characterises his music, such as the lively rhythms and balance of colourful harmonies with hints of folk melodies.

Anna Stefánsson is a member of the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra’s first violin section; Hermann Stefánsson is section leader of the orchestra’s clarinet section; and Bengt Forsberg is the concert’s guest, bringing curiosity and deep familiarity with the repertoire to his collaborations with a variety of prominent artists, including Anne Sofie von Otter.

Menu: Jerusalem artichoke soup with onion salad. The soup is served with sourdough bread, crispbread, whipped butter, and cheese as well as drinks and coffee/tea with a small biscuit. All the soups are lactose- and gluten-free. Please let us know any dietary requirements when booking.
