The Night and the Music

Jazz standards and evergreens with Lina Nyberg and Daniel Karlsson.

Two of Sweden’s most prominent jazz musicians perform together for the first time. Singer Lina Nyberg and pianist Daniel Karlsson both have successful careers of their own, in Sweden and internationally, and the duo has now presented a new album, The Night and the Music (Prophone/Naxos).

For their project, Nyberg and Karlsson chose a number of jazz standards and evergreens that step by step takes ous through the evening, night and early morning. In the list of songs we find for instance Red Sails in the Sunset and ’Round Midnight, Good Morning Starshine from the musical Hair and Samuel Barber’s famous setting of James Agee’s poem Sure On This Shining Night.

”Nyberg’s distinct sense of the words is smoothfully transformed to modernistic poetry. At the same time Daniel Karlsson appears to reflect on both the melodies and the texts. He adds delicate chords and sparse notes, rhythmically  articulated to the vocals. It is refined and well-suited to the whole.” (Orkesterjournalen)
