Soup Concert with violin and piano

Philharmonic member Sofie Sunnerstam performs with Dutch pianist Daan Treur in two relatively new works for violin and piano. 

The concert begins with Finnish Kaija Saariaho’s Calices from 2009. Saariaho is particularly well-known for her operas and extravagant orchestral sound, but smaller formats and unusual playing techniques also conjure up the singular moods that characterise her music. Calices consists of three movements and is filled with exciting sound experiments.

In his violin sonata from 1997, Turkish pianist and composer Fazil Say (born 1970 in Ankara) uses elements of Western classical style as well as elements from the folk music of his native country. This is also seasoned with intense, jazz-inspired rhythms. A form of world music? Well, why not!

Menu: Potato leek soup with shrimp & dill. The soup is served with sourdough bread, crispbread, whipped butter, and cheese as well as drinks and coffee/tea with a small biscuit. All the soups are lactose- and gluten-free. Please let us know any dietary requirements when booking.
