Chamber concert with orchestra academies

A collaboration between the orchestra academies of the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra and the National Polish Radio Symphony Orchestra in Katowice.

Since 2016, the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra (RSPO) offers one year of training on site at Konserthuset Stockholm. The RSPO Orchestra Academy aims to give participating musicians heightened knowledge and understanding of the profession. The young musicians receive individual tuition on their instrument by tutors that are predominantly leaders and principals of the orchestra.

In addition, extensive chamber music playing is a vital part of the course. In this case, the concert highllghts yet another partnership between the orchestra academies of the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra and the National Polish Radio Symphony Orchestra in Katowice. Together they give concerts both in Sweden and in Poland.

The programme is centered around relatively modern music, with the two great Polish composers Grazyna Bacewicz and Witold Lutoslawski, along with music by the Swedish composer Albert Schnelzer and – a wild card – American Gabriella Smith. The ensemble is led by Polish Zofia Kiniorska. She studied at the Chopin conservatory in Warzaw and has had master classes with for instance Paavo Järvi, Marin Alsop and Mirga Grazinyte-Tyla. In spring 2024 she will participate in the finale of the La Maestra competition in Paris.

***

The partnership between Konserthuset Stockholm and the Polish Radio Symphony Orchestra in Katowice is taking place in 2023, under the project name Institutions of the Future 2023. This project is supported by the Polish Ministry of Culture under their Inspiring Culture initiative.
