Kind of Jazz II – Inner Spirits

Jan Lundgren and Yamandu Costa have composed new music specifically for the occasion of this brand new collaboration, which premieres here. The phenomenal Yamandu Costa plays the Brazilian 7-string guitar and has deep roots in the country’s musical traditions. 

“Yamandu is incredible, not only possibly the world’s leading guitar virtuoso in this style, but also as a musician: he entices the music out,” says Jan Lundgren. They met at the Ystad Sweden Jazz Festival in 2021, and are now performing together for the first time. 

“The programme that we’ve designed reflects our roots in all directions and contains familiar songs and new compositions, based on Latin American rhythms. The subtitle, from Taube to Jobim, is in reference to the meeting between Sweden and Brazil,” explains Jan Lundgren.

In recent years, Jan Lundgren has given numerous concerts under the collective name Kind of Jazz, featuring collaborations with guest artists and ensembles. Jan Lundgren is among our foremost musicians. Through around 50 albums and numerous projects and collaborations, he has demonstrated his ability to embrace tradition while undergoing continuous renewal.
