Sonanza-ensemblen
New Friday with Sonanza
Jan Risberg conducts new Swedish music, including two world premieres.
Chamber ensemble Sonanza first performed in 1982 and had immediate success with Arnold Schoenberg’s Pierrot Lunaire. Led by Jan Risberg, they have subsequently become one of Scandinavia’s top ensembles for new music. Sonanza has premiered around 250 works, and at this New Friday concert, the ensemble adds two more: The Starving Heart by Benjamin Staern and a newly composed piece by Loke Risberg.
In recent years, Lisa Streich has garnered massive international acclaim for her original and imaginative music. In spring 2024, she is the feature of Konserthuset’s Composer Weekend, but already now, we hear one of her fascinating interpretations of the Pietà motif – Mary holding the body of the dead Christ.
Karin Rehnqvist’s Music at Night was composed during the isolation of the pandemic and portrays how our senses open as darkness falls. The sound is warm and dark, and the nuances never become particularly strong. But soon, light slips in like a hymn. Per Mårtensson’s Nonet begins as simply as possible, with a single note. The piece was composed for Sonanza’s 30-year anniversary and was inspired by the ensemble and its members.
