Blue House Jazz Orchestra Introducing Fred Hersch piano
An outstanding American pianist and composer performs with the Blue House Jazz Orchestra.
This spring’s Blue House Jazz subscription concludes with the house band – the Blue House Jazz Orchestra – performing under the lead of Peter Asplund. The guest artist is the unparalleled pianist and composer Fred Hersch.
American Fred Hersch has been celebrated for his innovative playing and creativity; The New Yorker has described him as “a living legend”. As the head of ensembles such as the Fred Hersch Trio, and in a variety of different collaborations, he has released over 50 albums. His acclaimed memoir, Good Things Happen Slowly, was released in 2017.
Fred Hersch now performs at Konserthuset with the Blue House Jazz Orchestra in a programme consisting mainly of Hersch’s own compositions. None other than Vince Mendoza created these arrangements for both big band and smaller constellations – solo, duo, trio and quartet.
Trumpet player and singer Peter Asplund has released his own records, most recently All My Septembers, and is an in-demand musician who has contributed to countless other albums. Asplund, together with colleague Magnus Lindgren, has led Konserthuset’s big band, the Blue House Jazz Orchestra, ever since its inception some 20 years ago.
